Knoxville, Tennessee, is only 40 minutes away where the jazz orchestra and the ballet offer cultural evenings out. Knoxville is the largest city in East Tennessee and home to the University of Tennessee and the newly-restored Tennessee Theater. This fair city also hosts such regional events as the Rossini Festival and the Dogwood Arts Festival.

Heading east from English Mountain is Asheville, North Carolina, known as one of the most artistic cities in the region. Asheville is approximately an hour away and is a popular weekend getaway spot for people from all over the country.  It is the home of the Highland Crafts Guild and the world famous Biltmore House, a 125,000 acre estate built by George Vanderbilt over 110 years ago and once the largest private residence in the United States.
